A second ministry of the Holy Spirit is to help believers know they are God's children and thereby to give them assurance of their salvation. In Romans 8:14-17 Paul tells us how we can know if we are God's child (hint: not everyone is), the privileges of being God's child, and how the Holy Spirit works in us to assure us we are God's child.
